Is 21 too young for online dating

To be sure, many people remain puzzled that someone would want to find a romantic partner online – 23% of Americans agree with the statement that “people who use online dating sites are desperate” – but in general it is much more culturally acceptable than it was a decade ago.

Online dating has jumped among adults under age 25 as well as those in their late 50s and early 60s.

How much older or younger would you go in your search for a spouse?

If you haven’t found quite what you’re looking for on an online dating site, you aren’t alone.

Two thirds of online daters—66%—tell us that they have gone on a date with someone they met through a dating site or dating app.

So on I went, looking up the most suitable social media dating sites, just advertising myself and throwing myself in the gauntlet of online dating. I was getting over 100 emails a day from the most random and creepy people. I took the opportunity that some decent guys offered me and I actually went on dates with people from the Internet.

I did my research and it seemed like the cool thing to do was, at 23 years old, go on Ok Cupid. I put a few pictures up, answered all those ridiculous questions and I just waited until I got a bite. I won't say that they were all creepy; there were few hopefuls but it felt like all these dudes in my age demographic was using these sites to essentially get people in bed. I still felt really weird about it but I really had nothing to lose, maybe except my life, because who the heck knows who these people really are any way. I went on three dates with three different dudes and went 0 for 3.

“10 years both ways…” –Jim-397948 “Never younger, same age, or 10-13 years older.” -Jordie-610865 “I used to think 2 years younger and up to 5or 6 older, but I’m starting to find that this might be limiting myself a lot! Too old.” -Ramona-738757 “Basically I tend to go 10 years either way but really prefer closer age than that.” -Dawn-758914 “I have gone as much as 7 years younger. I think dating someone any more than about 3 years older would be a little uncomfortable for me.” -Chris-577148 “In a search I go up or 54-64.

” -Nessa-101876 “20 up or down.” -John-631631 “If I need to shave more than you? [Donna is 59.] Considering that most men want a woman younger than them, I don’t hold out much hope for a man any younger than me. It makes me a little nervous though when many of the men who browse me are 70-80.

That is a substantial increase from the 43% of online daters who had actually progressed to the date stage when we first asked this question in 2005.

But it still means that one-third of online daters have not yet met up in real life with someone they initially found on an online dating site.

Today, 12% of 55- to 64-year-olds report ever using an online dating site or mobile dating app versus only 6% in 2013.
